My mouth is full of fillings because of the "drill and fill" mentality of many dentists. The more fillings they do, the more money they make.
What's a NHS dentist? They are as rare as hen's teeth in my area. I have been on the waiting list now for the last 3 years and had to go private.
I'm lucky. I have an excellent NHS dentist. Whatever the problem - he describes it in plain language, including the various treatment options and the varying costs - and then says it's up to me. I did have a dentist once who not only told me all the things I needed doing (most of which I didn't) and then told me when i was going to have it done - more or less saying when to make the appointments to suit him! I quickly took myself of his lists! In the end it's luck of the draw - but I'm one of the lucky ones.
There are thousands of Dentists in the UK. Most are private as far as I have ever found. I think its perhaps only children that can a NHS Dentist ?
Of couse there is good ones and bad ones, like anywhere else. I am quite happy with the one I have,
Ive just been kicked out of mine, but it was good.
i read a forum somewhere (sorry, ive lost it) where most people were complaining about bad treatment. one woman was told she needed 7 fillings. she went to a private dentist who said nothing needed to be done. i read of bodged ill fitting dentures, over charging, taking teeth out unnecessarily etc. it was not good to read
