Serial killers can be sane.......we might not understand what they do as a sane thing but never the less they are still sane.
Most people that are suffering from a mental illness...their thought process doesn't work as normal.
They maybe having hallucinations or delusions etc.
See Brevik is a difficult one to figure out....he wanted to stop the spread of Islam. Is worrying about the spread of Islam a valid worry or was he deluded and believing things that were not happening?
Most people will just think he was insane because he killed so many people.....Sometimes people that do that are not always mad...some are just bad.
Having and acting upon a radical world view -- no matter how senseless it may be -- does not make a person insane. Suicide bombers are perfectly sane within their own culture and world, and they kill others because they believe it is right and moral. Similarly, Breivik killed those teenagers not as a result of insanity, but of a warped world view which told him that it was the moral thing to do.
I don't think he is insane. I think he just lived out the fantasies of so many youtube and yahoo answers posters. There are so many deranged and deluded people in this world with all kinds of fucked up beliefs and leanings. This guy has wasted his life and ruined the lives of 100s of people for nothing.
Although I will say his eyes look pretty crazy and demented in court but that could be lack of sleep and stress.
I am in Germany I just want this guy to disappear so I can watch the news again!

He as sane as the day is long, and dangerous, very dangerous to the establishment, however extreme his actions they are likely to strike a chord with many people who are Nationalists of any Nation, people who are sick and tired of corruption and pocket lining in Governments, sick of unchecked crime (!) and what they see as external threats that Governments are ignoring or embracing.
He does not see his deeds as guilty or not guilty, good or bad, only necessary. Necessary to save his Homeland and Nationality from the enemy within, as he sees it!
He is the Fourth Reich looking for somewhere to happen!
I think he's sane, and I'm sure everyone all around the world has heard the news. With TV, radio, twitter, facebook, msn and skype, how can people not know?
They've got four forensic psychiatrists trying to figure it out during the trial, and even they are confused... He's either insane or evil. Hopefully we will know in ten weeks...
oh he's obviously sane, as he can function rationally, tie his shoe laces, use photoshop, point and fire a gun etc, the art of sanity is an abstraction invented by 'professionals' to keep themselves in motorboats and the ability to hire expensive prostitutes and rub chocolate all over them.. take it from me.

No I don't. He's intolerant and he's racially bigoted, but I don't believe he's insane.
Okay so there has got to be something wrong with him because he killed 77 people, shooting them all including children and everything. But many people are arguing whether he is actually insane and not just some religious nut who said he was "defending Norway from multiculturalism" he has described how he killed the victims but he pleads not guilty. Most people would assume he was insane straight away but there are arguments that he is actually sane
