If you're in a suburban or urban area, you probably can't. Where I live, there are some days we aren't even allowed to have a bar-b-que outside due to the fire danger and/or pollution.
Depends on if you plan on making human sacrifices to the almighty Spaghetti Monster or to the Great God Tukumuku or not. These two deities will punish your eternal souls if you have a bonfire and do not pay them tribute.
Its VERY rude to your neighbours as the smoke will Travel to there yards and stuff like that
