The surrender of the Empire of Japan on September 2, 1945 brought the hostilities of World War II to a close.
After several more days of behind-the-scenes negotiations and a failed coup d'état, Hirohito gave a recorded radio address to the nation on August 15. In the radio address, called the Gyokuon-hōsō ("Jewel Voice Broadcast"), he announced the surrender of Japan.

By the time the first bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the Japanese had, for the most part, been completely beaten back to their homeland. They were surrounded, and invasion was imminent.
After the first bomb was dropped, the US demanded Japan's surrender, but the Japanese government refused to the unconditional surrender.*
So the US bombed Nagasaki and the Emperor surrendered over the air on the radio. It was the first time most of the Japanese people had ever heard the Emperor speak.
* there are theories that Japan was going to accept unconditional surrender after Hiroshima, but either their translator messed up the message or didn't get it done in time, or the US refused to read it. Either way, the bombing of Nagasaki remains much more controversial than Hiroshima.
No the Americans had to drop another bomb on Nagasaki which is no-where as well known as Hiroshima.I think after that Japan sued for peace. and Douglas MacArthur signed the surrender in Tokyo bay. Hope this helps.
They surrendered after the second bomb. They realized the USA had more bombs !
