Most states have no llicense requirements or background checks on these lock smiths that come out to change your lock. In some case they come back later and steal your car or rob your apartment. If you paid by check or credit card you may want to think about changing your credit card or checking account number. If you paid by credit card you can report them to the credit card company. See if your area has AAA and see if they still cover lock smiths. It would be worth the investment. Recently in Florida a locksmith was called to a home and he brought his 8 year old son with him. The 8 year old changed 3 locks and charged 86.00. Later the same locksmith was called to a nursing home to do work for the elderly. File a BBB complaint or Pissedconsumer.com complaint.
Well, how are you to do this checking? When you are locked out of your own house? And besides, if someone asked you to come out at night to get you into your own house, what would you charge? You might charge a healthy fee yourself. Your other choice might be to curl up on your welcome mat for the night.
A better lesson is you should carry a spare key.
Or if people will pay such a high fee, maybe you should go learn about locksmithing yourself.

I'm sorry that this happened to you. I, too, have been ripped off by service people. Do you really think it's a good idea to go public with these claims? They know where you live and are locksmiths who could easily get into your home. Be safe yourself.
About 2 months ago i was locked outside my apartment and had to call a locksmith, i called a company by the name Run Local Locksmith, long story short, i didn't read the reviews on the internet and i got ripped off by this company real bad! i paid like $200 to get in to my place. I wanted to report them and now there website is down by i discovered that there new website is www.professional-locksmiths.com, Be AWARE this are BAD and Criminal people, Don't ever use them. They will Rip you off! Do some quick search on them and see how many complaints and they are all over the NEWS . Just a suggestion. Be safe
