Because the US violated WW-2 agreements made about Korea (and Germany) made at several conferences (Yalta, Casablanca, Oslo etc). At the end of WW-2 by agreement the US occupied the southern area of korea while the Soviet Union occupied the north. NATIONWIDE elections were supposed to have occurred in 1948 for the reunification of the Korean peninsular but the US refused. Instead the US illegally created the "Republic of South Korea" and installed a right-wing military dictator, Syngham Rhee, as president and he immediately started rounding up any dissidents calling for a return to the WW-2 agreements and executing them with US officers looking on.
The US also armed the South Korean military and encouraged them to retake the northern zone. There is some documentary evidence, collected by two Australian military officers and a British diplomat, that it was the south that invaded the north in June 1950 starting the Korean War whilst the US story is that the "North" invaded the south.
North Korea never achieved any measure of world economic success remotely near the level that South Korea did, especially along the lines of technology and therefore gaining respect in the world.
And that disparity was probably attributed to the US. How the US managed to take responsibility of their failures is most likely unfair accusations because the SOuth Koreans did all the work themselves, educating themselves and applying their efforts to better their industries and gain expertise in electronics and automotives.

Yes they devoted their time hating and resenting the decisions made in the past just nurturing anger.
They are communists of the Stalinist variety,like the Soviet Union was before they saw the light. China (once known as Red China) has a much milder form,although a dictatorship its more socialist policies.
America is the big capitalist country,but in effect they hate Britain and any western state.
America broke the treaties signed by South Korea, Japan, North Korea, Soviet Union, and themselves. They illegally invaded past the border and killed thousands and millions of civilians, both sides are equally to blame, there are lies from both sides slandering each other.
They are jealous of just about every other country on earth.
Their internal economic policies have left the majority of the country destitute. They realize this but are unwilling to change their political structure to further their overall country's aims.
They are standing up for what they think is right.
Maybe they get more from being enemies than they would by being friends.
