Why are gas prices so high in California only?

Each state has its own gasoline taxes. California has some of the highest gas taxes in the country. Thats part of the California Democrat controlled philosophy of high taxation. Their is nothing the president can do to change the differing prices across the country, thats a state right that the Dems in California want.

CA has the highest gas tax rate in the nation, tied with NY and CT, at 67 cents per gallon (combined fed, state, and local taxes). That's why your prices are often the highest in the nation. (It should be noted that many other countries, ie. Canada & Europe have far higher taxes).

The president has little control over gas prices. About the only thing the pres can do to affect gas prices is go to war in the middle east, which of course raises prices. Gas prices are determined by global supply and demand. Even allowing more drilling in the US wouldn't do too much to lower the price of gas. It has more to do with growing demand for energy in China and India.

I live in Houston Texas, the gas here is quite cheaper at $3.39 a gallon. i remembered a few years ago like around 2007 or 2008 in december the gas droped around $2.00 i was not joking it did. i was really surprised. And on that day, the news said texas has the lowest gas prices, well on that year.

I may have not answered your question but i was just explaing prices of gas in another state

Obama said he'd stop giving oil companies handouts - on national TV last night.

Is anyone surprised by the gas prices jumping 40 cents today?

Who do you think is running this country?

This just seems like the beginning of some muscle flexing by the oils.

Here in your friendly neighbor to the north (BC, Canada), we are paying over $4.80 per US gallon, east of Vancouver. In the city, it's even higher.

the gas companies always have some excuse, but the stuff they get in california goes to the east coast and their prices are "normal". what can the president do about it also, because doesn't depend on the market?
