in my opinion I think muzzling all dogs is a stupid idea the government should have tighter controls on breeding and ownership
The best thing to do is impose a licensing scheme where you need to take a test on responsible ownership not just to curb aggression but for those idiots who don't clean up after their dogs in the street. Also I believe it should be mandatory for owners to have their dog insured no matter what breed it is
they could also have certain breeds for different groups of people for example an elderly person shouldn't be walking around with a large dogs they should have a small to medium size dog so they can control it better and if someone with young kids wants to add a dog into the family it too should be a small to medium size breed
I never blame the dog---ever. I have seen some of the most vicious breeds of dog, SO happy to see people, they almost knock people to the ground licking the hands and face of human beings. I have also seen the SAME breed of dog, growling and snarling at me from 20 feet away, just begging for a chance to rip out my throat. The ONLY difference are the owners---who happen to be human. Just as I believe some humans have NO right to be around children, so do I also believe some humans have no right to be around dogs. It is said that a dog is man's best friend. I believe this. But, I do NOT believe that man is dog's best friend. Dogs possess a far more sterling character than man will EVER possess. Start muzzling your human beings. Leave ALL of your dogs in peace
I appreciate what you say about owners being partly, if not wholly to blame, and that is a reason in favour of muzzling dogs in public. If everyone could be trusted to rear animals correctly and humanely, then dog attacks wouldn't be so commonplace.
I think all dogs should be microchipped, with obvious, visible proof of ownership, so that people can instantly prove a dog's been microchipped. People caught with a dog that is not microchipped will have their dog removed from their ownership, be fined (out of their benefits if needs be) and be banned from keeping dogs for a period of time.
In the meantime I agree with dogs above a certain weight or height to be muzzled in public. Yes it's harsh on the majority of well behaved dogs, but if a large dog goes on the attack, someone will pay with their life.
I have always thought a dog is or must have been mistreated to become aggressive.
The problem more often than not is at the other end of the lead.
Something obviously upset the dog to cause it to attack, maybe it was fireworks.
This time of year is hell for animals ( pets don't understand bonfire night ) & humans of a nervous disposition.
It is unfair and unkind to muzzle a dog 24 hours a day , a little girl died in her own home when the dog would not of had a muzzle on
I would not wish for all dogs to be muzzled but if any owner feels that his or her dog cannot be trusted then perhaps they should ensure that their dog is muzzled to stop them being sued or worse.
No, the owners are more to blame than the dogs. Muzzle the owners!
It wouldn't work anyway as the muzzle would have to be removed to feed the dog.
The problem isn't with dogs. It's with owners.
firstly, its not the dogs, its the owners, secondly most attacks have happened in doors where dogs are usually not muzzled
all dogs need to be neutered.
I personally don't agree with it as not all dogs are aggressive and the majority of dog owners are responsible people. Yes its very sad when children are killed by dogs but at least part of the blame has to be put on the owner of the dog who has for example a 4 year ol child and decides to get a dog like a akita that is breed as a fighting dog. people seriously need to research a breed properly before getting a dog. I used the akita as an example as i knew a woman who had 4 of them while she had a small baby and they started displaying aggresion towards her and the baby so she was told by the council to get rid of 3. im not saying all akita's or any breed of dog are vicious in general just that people need to be more educated about different breeds of dogs and have something like taining lessons on how to handle and train their dogs. It really annoys me when its just the dog'swho get blamed when in actual fact 9 times out of 10 its the humans at fault and as for thugs with status dogs i think they should get the same treatment as the poor dog who can't be rehomed gets and thats put down. It would certainly solve the prioblem and people like that are no loss to the world anyway.

I am not for that at all. I live in the US, we don't require muzzles.
