Should the 1p coin be abolished?

In the daily mail the other day, it had an article on whether britain should stop minting the 1p coin as it is of so little value. Do you agree?

Absolutely not! The 1p coin is a symbol of Britain's place in the world. It is 'coppery', 'brassy'... and 'metally'. It is the ancestor/descendant of much bigger coins that actually had 'Britannia' herself on them! If we get rid of the 1p coin... we might forget that some pennies had lighthouses on them and some didn't!

Bring back the brass 'thruppence'... and the silver 'tanner'. Stop this head long rush into meaningless money.

Keep the 1p.

One single little 1p is worth llittle but if you think of all the prices you see in the shops of items ending in 99p then it is like if the 1p goes the price of the item will be rounded up to the nearest £ and imagine how much all these 1p's together would be worth. Therefore I definitely don't think it should be abolished.

No. It may only be worth 1p, but all those 1ps add up.

I'm sure businesses would love it, though - all those things that cost 99p or £x.99 would be rounded upwards and they would make more money. Us customers would be worse off. You may think 'it's only 1p' but all those 1ps add up.

I disagree lol. One day I bought some clothes online, and then i didn't like it in person, so i went in store but i was only allowed to exchange, and i stupidly left my wallet at home and I only had my receipt for what i bought, which was worth 49.99. I couldn't buy somehting i wanted because it was £50. I found 1p on the counter lol, and I was able to purchase my product!

It's being phased out in Canada and everything will be rounded off. It costs more than one cent to make a penny coin..

no because it brings up the change issue when it comes to the 99p issue. for example, £9.99 sounds better than £10 doesnt it. its another small way to inflation. dont listen to it! keep the 1ps they make me feel better!!

NO! What when you go over at the petrol station?! :o

yes, it is surely woth less than 1d and 1/2p when they went - 5p minimum!

No - they should just make them smaller

No, they can be handy and even otherwise they can accumulate.
