Insert a piece of wood to prevent the window being opened more than 6".
Think of it like this: If you were sleeping on the OUTSIDE, would you want the window open to the inside?
I say safety first and invest in a fan. I can't sleep withou it on, even when it's cold I keep it on because of the noise it makes$ good luck
