I am not an American, but I did think it was something pretty petty to resign over.He must ask for his job back. He has such a cool name. David England.
Of course he should.!!
How can such a 'senior' public figure CIA/ex Senior Military person demand 'respect' and the carrying out of 'his orders' when 'he' is so badly 'tainted' by his own actions.
BC 'was impeached' for 'his' public/media misleading/lying actions regarding ML - it was 'narrowly defeated' in a political impeachment session and BC was saved....just.!! But BC 'credibility' was lost forever - 'he' became a 'suspect' President for the remainder of his term.
The suspicion for BC being 'saved' was because of the Richard Nixon (threatened by impeachment in reality) resignation....the US 'can't have 2 Presidents Impeached out of office' over such a 'short' time period....it doesn't look good.!!
So - as with all political figures 'they' are allowed to resign (Nixon/Patraeus) or be saved by a voting impeachment session....by an 'embarrassed' political system.!!
Do you think you would get early retirement for juicing about? i think not.
Anyway best of luck to the guy and well done for his service.
i think he got there before the press another good tactic by a good general.

Yes he should have resigned. He was in too important of a job that required all of his time to be focused on much more serious matters. His opinions will still count. He just can't be in the limelight anymore.
Unlike Clinton, the CIA has very strict rules against extra-marital affairs. To them it's a security threat as the person having the affair is more easily manipulated or susceptible to things like blackmail. Under either of those, an agent could be convinced to violate or reveal classified material.

Why bother, people are in affairs all the time across the world, should all those people resign from their jobs? Of course not. We hold our leaders to the same morality as ourselves, if we can't keep the morality, why should they?
seeing as how Bill Clinton did not resign over the Monica Lewinsky scandal
