One name always is brought up when this question is asked; 'Vietnam'. John Kennedy was cautious in his approach to 'Boots on the ground' commitment to American actions against communism, he refused to even offer air support to Cuban Fighters. If Mr Kennedy followed his usual 'modus operandi' in his response to communist expansion, he almost certainly would never have committed ground forces in Vietnam. He was said to be considering a total withdrawal from Vietnam and letting Vietnam settle it's own dispute about which 'Vietnam' was the legitimate Government of Vietnam.

Ironically. this caution Mr Kennedy favored may actually have slowed down Civil Rights Laws being enforced in America. The same 'let's do it' approach Mr Johnson endorsed in Indochina he also displayed with Civil Rights Legislation. Mr Kennedy in private conversations always spoke of his concerns about alienating Southern Voters.

Mr Kennedy's murder also marked the beginning of 'loss of faith' in U.S. Government by many Americans as conspiracy theorists weaved bazaar and weired plots that supposedly were behind the Presidents murder. Despite all investigations by American and outside investigators showing Lee Oswald 'did' act alone and for reasons we will probably never know, the majority of Americans today see a conspiracy behind Mr Kennedy's murder. The grotesque and buffoon like stance that Jack Ruby took when he shot Lee Oswald in front of the American Public live on T.V. was not seen as the 'Walter Mitty' fantasy of Ruby that it was, it was seen as the actions of 'sinister forces'.

Only thing I can think of is; that with JKF out of the way Lyndon Johnson assumed the presidency and immediately escalated the Vietnam war for the benefit of businesses and arms dealers. So American business prospered more, the civil rights movement - Kennedy's "legacy" (who was going to hamper the progress made with the civil rights "saint" dead) so Black People prospered.

Many many families lost children, soldiers returned psychologically damaged - the off spin of that changed america. The film industry prospered viz. Deer Hunter.

Younger men in politics were finally taken seriously in stead of boring old f*rts.

America realised that Presidents are not "untouchable" or Invulnerable like Superman. It grounded the population in a way unknown before.

Proved the powerful factions in government, crime and clandestine organizations could, and do, work together to kill even the top executive of a country when big money through the military industrial complex are threatened.
