Keep in mind that once a hurricane hits land, it's no longer a hurricane, but the storm can continue 100s or even 1000s of miles inland bringing rain.
The size and area of a hurricane's footprint are relative to the characteristics of the storm itself.
The diameter (distance across) of any hurricane can be as wide as 300 miles or more,
while the gale force winds can be found to continue as far out as another 300 to 400 miles from there.
A hurricane moves, it can encompass 600 miles across. It gets energy from the warm ocean. It is one big storm!
That's all relevant to the size and strength of a hurricane.
