The Royal family do NOT own Buckingham Palace. It is owned by the country and should be maintained by the country. As the building is used as offices and State banquets and Investitures it is hardly a luxury mansion that houses a few pensioners.
What should be addressed is the amount of superfluous and employ properties on Crown estates. These could be sold off and the money used to carry out the urgent and much needed repairs on the main properties.
Queenie can afford to pay for repairs & up-keep of Buckingham Palace.
But like others with money, they TRY & get someone else to pay, first.
When a section of Windsor Castle caught fire in '92 the institution of the monarchy asked Joe Public to shell out. The public said NO.
She could afford it 20 odd years ago, she can afford it now, she even got a pay rise of ￡5M!
They carry on pushing their luck a few more people might fall out of love with an archaic royal family.

As other wiser users say,Buck House belongs to the nation. The Queen and Philip are little more than tenants. They must repair what belongs to us all,anyway its visitors that would pay.
Buck house is NOT part of The Queen's personal wealth. It is a state owned residence provided to the Queen and her family for them to fulfull their official duties. Therefore the State should pay to maintain it.
The royal family is worth about ￡15 billion, they need about ￡50 million to repair everything, I struggle to see how it is our business, they have the money, they can repair it, why does the public need to know?

Millions of pounds to repair our palace yes that's right "our" as it belongs to the people of Great Britain and not the royal family oh and by the way that family of pensioners earn a great deal of money for the u.k. by opening it to many thousands of visitors each year so if we have to maintain our assets don't we .
Every country needs a figurehead. If it wasn't a royal it would be a president. I think which of these is more the debate than the cost. I think we'd have to pay either way.
