I've just had a week off work and spent it all watching the 3 season of GoT. I need to get back to the real world, lol! Oh, and one of the things I like most are the beautiful settings. King's Landing was filmed in Croatia and it's absolutely gorgeous.

Maybe they just like it more than you do. That's fine. Not everyone is going to like every TV show. You could give the first few episodes a go to see for yourself. That would confirm whether you like it or not. If you don't you can just stop watching.
I watch it mate and i'll tell ya this. It is the most OVERATED show of all time!!!! If you're into incest, gay scenes and midgets doing whores then that's the show for you.
It is a fantasy and I like good Fantasy, has some really great characters and it is very well written, it is nothing like Lord of the Rings. There is abit to much sexual content for my taste but I do like the main story
It's my 3rd favorite show of all time (1. Walking Dead, 2. Breaking Bad)
Lord of the Rings are my favorite movies of all time and these are not the same. If you don't like fantasy than obviously you might not like it, but if you try it then maybe you change your mind.
I don't really like it, nor have I barely watched a full episode but my friends tell me all about it.
I think It's so popular because it has everything; violence, sex, love, crime, punishment and even a bit of depth (yeah I was surprised too). The main audience is male due to the sex scenes but it seems quite dramatic and interesting. I might actually take a look. A part of its popularity is because it is so different!
I like it because I like the characters in it. I like the elements of fantasy in it. I feel that they are not over played. You mention Lord of the Rings, I personally feel that movies like that have a bit too much fantasy. Like, it is nothing but fantasy. With GoT there are a few fantasy elements, like dragons and walkers, but a lot of it is just normal people in a mid-evil like setting. So, it doesn't over do it on the fantasy stuff, in my opinion.
Then the characters are really good. I like that they aren't afraid to kill a beloved character. One thing I absolutely hate is when a show or book kills all the bad guys and lets all the good guys live, or refuses to kill a main character.
I like that the plot goes in directions you weren't expecting. I guess some parts are predictable, but a lot of the time stuff happens that you just are not expecting.
I personally don't care for the nudity. It does not add to the show for me.
have you tried watching it yourself? Even if you don't like fantasy, I think a lot of people who dislike fantasy would like this show. Just like I don't like sci-fi, but I like Dr. Who.
This may seem a stupid question to some and I do NOT want answers like "how can you not like it?", "whats not to get" etc.
Half my friends watch this Game of Thrones but I don't and honestly have no intention to, to me it seems like Lord of the Rings with more dragons and much much more nudity and sex and that kind of thing doesn't appeal to me (the fantasy element not the nudity)
My question (again as daft as it sounds) is what is so special about Game of Thrones? Why all the hype about it?
