Was it necessary with the benefit of hindsight? Not in my opinion. It was meant to end the long and costly state of war (the no-fly enforcement), enforce UN sanctions especially on WMDs, and to show other Arab states that a republic was something they could obtain. It took as many years as the no-fly enforcement so that was a bust. There were no WMDs as Hussein fooled even his own generals in order to scare off an attack from Iran while Iraq was so weak so that was a bust. The republic has become sectarian and not very democratic so that was a bust.
When you say US. Who do you mean America? Did America invade Iraq on it's own?
Try asking the question correctly, like 'Did you think it was necessary to invade Iraq?'

I don't think war is ever necessary, but it is a nice to be able to keep a better watch on our oil supply which they like to threaten to cut us off on. However, I do think it was pretty risky and moronic, knowing the soviets basically crashed there economy trying to do it first.

But it did no flipping good, because our soldiers were already in the country doing US biding.
Saddam had NO WMDs, had no connections to terrorists & the invasion was soon proved to be purely to seize Iraqi Oil.
