And a thousand years later, the people who claimed he saved, went on a killing spree of unimaginal proportions.
Murdering, raping and pillaging anyone who happened to disagree with them.
They continued with this terrible behavior for close on eight centuries, without any sense of guilt whatsoever, and they never stopped to realise that what they were doing, was exactly the opposite of what Jesus had preached.
Even now so many still delude themselves in self gratification, to justify their belief that their religion is the only true one, and that God only considers their view of things.
Six centuries after Jesus died, a splinter group split away from bulk of these believers, saying they disbelieved their explanation of what God was.
They chose to believe a man who said that there was only one true God, and that they were duty bound to only worship this God, and that their children should only learn about this one God.
Over the next 1,400 years this splinter group expanded so much that it's number of believers easily exceeded that of the original group of believers they had split away from.
They also arrogantly believed that their religious version, was the only genuine one, and that all others are unbelievers !
For one thousand of these 1,400 years, these two groups have waged hatred and war against each other, right up to the present day.
The moral(s) of the story :-
If Jesus had known then what would happen after he died, he certainly would not have given his life so easily.
People are too much like sheep.
It is far too easy to persuade the masses to commit all sorts of barbaric deeds in the name of a belief, even to the point of committing genocide.
This has happened time and time again throughout history, and not just in the name of religion.
Jesus wanted us to realise this, but he failed miserably, we even used his good name to justify our bloody deeds.
It seems we don't need much of a reason, just look at the holocaust not so long ago, in a Christian land..
Though it would not be that graphic or that great of a situation except in Hollywood or a Clancy novel, most people would out of the instinct of survival think otherwise, but some with true grit would have a reflex reaction and jump in-front of danger, even if it meant their life.
But in a sense thats what suicide bombers do all the time. Not exactly to save another person. The soldiers in the first world war walked into a wall of lead. There are lots of circumstances.I suppose they may draw the short straw.
Yes suppose I would.
Why not?
My reward might be small but it could make others happy & that's all that matters.
Most parents would certainly sacrifice themselves for their children and grandchildren, and I would join those ranks.
Most of us would hope we would, but in fact, we don't know until such an event occurs (hopefully never).
No, if somebody has to die, let them die.
very difficult to answer.
Would you volunteer to die to save another person? or a group of people?
Say if you were in a life and death situation. And someone say.. had to stay behind to push a button on an atomic bomb (on a meteorite, maybe would save the entire human race). [<- Got this scene from a movie]. Someone is picked to do the job. Will you drop in for them?
