Where was the worst nuclear disaster in Russia?

There was a meltdown of one of the nuclear reactors in Chernobyl that decimated much of the area. That is no doubt what your teacher was talking about. Although this technically happened in the Ukraine, it was under control of the U.S.S.R. in that time period. This may help a bit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_d...

I know that a lot of people say that wikipedia is not reliable but I have read over it and everything, to my knowledge is true. Good luck!

I think you're talking about the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in Ukraine. At the time Ukraine was part of the USSR, which by 1991 had broken up into 15 countries, the largest being Russia. Basically what happened was a nuclear reactor exploded after a failed attempt at shutting down the plant after a power outage.

You may not be familiar with this, but now Hollywood's making a cheesy horror movie loosely based off the Chernobyl disaster, it's called the Chernobyl Diaries.

Yeah, that's it.

Dont listen to the people who say Chernobyl. That was not Russia.

I have never heard of the one you mentioned, but Chernobyl was quite bad.

My teacher told us we would get extra credit if we found out where it was. He said it was even removed from the map for a while.

All I can find is mayak at Chelyabinsk in 1953. That sounds right to me, unless somebody knows otherwise.

Thanks in advance! I would really like extra credit!
