What exactly is happening to Russia, and our skies?

Shooting stars are very common, it could have potentially been another meteor but it's actually a very common but most of the time they are too small and fade prior impact. Also an asteroid passed the earth last night so It might have been that. Don't worry though, just remember it's very common and if your really worried look at NASA's site, they know everything about space!

What's happening is what's been going on for billions of years and all of human existence.

Rocks are whipping around through space, left over from the formation of our solar system.

Tons of this stuff hits the earth daily. That's what shooting stars are.

There's so much of it that we have dozens of meteor showers each and every year:

Next time the moon is full, take a look at it.

Every wondered where all those moon craters came from?

They came from the same type of crap that hits Earth all the time, too.

Sometimes, bigger rocks hit our atmosphere and break apart.

The one that busted up over Russia is an example of that.

One that happened over another part of Russia in the early 1900s was WAY more severe.

In 1908, a space rock exploding in the atmosphere flattened a massive part of the Tunguska region of Siberia. The devastated area was 57 miles across, and the explosion shattered windows 400 miles away.

These photos were taken in 1927, years after it'd happened:

Sometimes these rocks are big enough they don't break up in the air.

They actually hit the Earth and leave craters:

Have you ever looked at pictures of the craters on the moon? How do you think they got there? In 1908 in Siberia they had one that took out several hundred square miles of trees. Laid them down like match sticks. If a meteor the size of the 1908 meteor had hit Moscow today it would have wiped out the city and kill millions. Then theres the danger some fool could mistake it for a nuclear attack and respond in kind with a nuclear attack on the US.

I'm actually surprised that people are surprised. For a long time scientists have been warning us that something like this will happen. Meteorites have hit the earth thousands of times in our history and will do so again.

I'm sure many people have heard of this. On Feb. 15, a meteor hit right above Russia, injuring about 1,000 people. I saw the video, and read the news about it. It fazed me.

Then my friend told me as she was coming home from a rehearsal, she saw a bright light streaking across the sky, just like the Meteor. Except this time, it didn't burst.

Does anyone know about this? Or what could this be?
