Of course they should, sadly if the were they would probably be afraid to use them for fear of being prosecuted for shooting some robbing scum, druggie,or murderer that was pointing a gun at them.

Arm them and give them immunity from prosecution.

In light of recent events yes I think they should.

I don't think every single policeman/woman should carry a gun routinely, but I would give the officer the option to choose & it should be up to them

And the public, criminals, gang members etc etc won't know who is carrying & who isn't.

No, they don't need them. It would just mean criminals arm themselves, besides even the police force don't want guns.
