In that timeline some smeghead, looking for a curry restaurant, accidentally knocks Oswald out of the window, saving JFK. However this new timeline leads to a series of events culminating in JFK being discredited, and causes a limited nuclear war between the US and USSR.

So, to save the world, that JFK travels back in time and shoots his younger self. From the grassy knoll.
