No
The Tory government did that when they let people buy council houses, but didn't build any new ones
to replace the lost housing stock
The sheer shortage of council homes has meant the majority of people seeking a rented home
have to look at a private rental
Why do so many people think that being a Landlord is so easy and that landlords are all Fat and rich?
As a matter of fact Rental returns against capital outlay (to buy the property) are less now (as a %) than they were 25 years ago.
Families often end up in trouble when irresponsible people have kids they can't afford to look after and seem to think it's everybody else's problem.
What's the alternative? We all know that if the gov builds a million low rent council houses they'll just get snapped up by welfare mums who go straight to the top of the list... low paid workers don't get a look in.
BTW the Tories didn't build replacement council homes from the eighties on but that doesn't necessarily mean that there is less social housing as housing associations have expanded so much.
Providing more cheap housing is a bit like building more and more roads - all you're doing is stimulating demand to fill the supply (Parkinson's Law)
Yes.
throughout history, landlords have destroyed families. it will never change
