As far as I know he's still free.
The local cops consider the case closed.
The FBI have been working on their own investigation but as far as I know, Zimmerman hasn't even been named a person-of-interest despite admitting he shot Treyvon.
The real issue isn't that Treyvon was killed by Zimmerman but that the cops seemingly refuse to do anything about it. They didn't take him into custody for questioning. They simply took his explanation of 'self defense' at face value. They apparently didn't even question the eye-witnesses, and instead only talked to the people inside their houses who made 911 calls about the fight they heard going on outside.
Doesn't that sound downright...odd? And if you were outside and saw 2 guys get into a fight with a gun don't you think you'd either run off, film it, or call 911? Yet none of the eye witnesses did this apparently...
No matter what happened, how long are we going to have to continue to hear about this little "17 year old boy"? You are not a little boy at 17, and if you are beating on someone you have more than enough ability to kill them with your fists. He's the only kid in America that didn't have a picture of himself taken after he hit 12 years old.............or so it seems.
I don't know what happened and neither do most of the people on YA. I don't have enough information to say which one of them was in the wrong.
In the USA one is not convicted until proven guilty. Everything so far is hate against the hispanic american.
