Manning often courted controversy because he was one of the few English comedians whose act often contained views which were commonly aired in the United Kingdom during the 1970s, though are now seen by some as socially unacceptable. Critics regarded much of Manning's humour as racist, although Manning himself denied this.
In my view, he was a very funny man, and although many felt he was racist, I disagree. Yes, he did make fun of black people, but he also made fun of white people, old people, young people, gay people, straight people, males, females and he even made fun of himself. He also did a great deal for charity.
I saw him interviewed and he had no hate in him.to him it was always about the joke.He was not an intellectual who was able to defend himself from the bigots witch-hunting their enemies. He was a nice man who made people laugh...not hate.
Leave his memory alone and find real evil to attack.
I never did. He was of his time and would not be allowed to perform nowadays.
Unfunny, racist, misogynist dinosaur!
Did you find him funny
