If they use email or cell phones we are listening. If they are talking in a public place, we are listening. Sometimes when they are whispering in each others ears, we are listening too. This isn't like catching a criminal for a crime. All they have to do is talk about a plan to bring destruction to govenments and they are killed. No trial, no lawyers and no appeals.
Repeating 911 would be next to impossible for them. The Spirit of Flight 02 lives and other passengers would attack them immediately without any concern for their own safety. No one will buy the "Stay Calm" message they like to use to pacify passengers again.
There are other ways they can do a lot of damage but we can also nuke Mecca into a glass pool if they do. Don't think that isn't a consideration.
Uh, since we killed Bin Laden, Al Qaida's membership and overall influence has taken a sharp drop.
Just last week, there was drone strike that killed another 8 Al Qaida operatives. They may not be down and out entirely but they're certainly on the way down.
As for another 9/11, if you referring to another instance of terrorists hijacking a plane, taking over the cockpit, and crashing it into a target, no. It will never happen again. First of all, all planes now have locking, steel reinforced cockpit doors. This makes it nearly impossible for anyone to break into the cockpit. Even if some were to try, it would alert the pilots inside who would report the incident, and immediately land the plane. Furthermore, anyone stupid enough to stand up and announce he is hijacking the plane will immediately face the combined wrath of every passenger - including the grandma who had to undergo an enhanced pat-down by the TSA. At this point, the terrorist had better hope there's an air marshal on board, and that he gets to him before grandma finishes curb-stomping the terrorist into the bulkhead. Again, the pilots would be alerted and would immediately land the plane where it would be greeted by the combined forces of the local cops' SWAT team, and the FBI.
Of course that doesn't mean we aren't vulnerable in other ways. However, it seems Al Qaida seems singularly obsessed with trying to attack aircraft.
A lot of the 10-year retrospection discussion on 9/11, the extent to which al-Qaeda has been degraded, the necessity or non-necessity of an Afghan invasion, seems to me to be missing a key point:
We could have taken no action at all against al-Qaeda after 9/11 ― no Afghanistan invasion, no drones in Pakistan or Yemen, ― and we probably still could have prevented another attack on that scale. I’m not saying that we should have taken this approach, but the single most critical factor in preventing a major attack was simply the awareness that someone was out there, trying to kill a lot of people in the United States.
A hijacked passenger jet is probably one of the few weapons capable of causing such destruction, that was also relatively easy for terrorists to obtain. And as of 9/12, no one was going to hand a jet over to terrorists. The 9/11 hijackers had such an easy time of it because of the “Common Strategy”, by which crews were trained not to resist hijackings. The Common Strategy was based on the assumption that hijackers wanted to simply to land the plane somewhere, and realize their demands.
It’s shocking, in retrospect, that this assumption and this protocol was maintained all through the 90s. But once it was thrown out, a flying fuel-filled missile was no longer available to anyone who walked to the cabin and demanded it.
An unmolested Al Qaeda would have retained the ability to train people to stage car or subway bombings, or bombings of individual aircraft. How much difference that training would have made is difficult to assess. But 90% of the organization’s ability to kill people inside the United States and other Western countries was lost when they exploited that one, easily-closed window of vulnerability.
Yes it can happen again, perhaps not exactly the same scenario, and maybe not so many deaths.
You shouldn't be scared because the chances of a future terror attack affecting you directly is so very small.
Hijacking airplanes is much harder now because of much better airport security, which should have been in place years before 9/11, there were enough warning signs, but the US aviation industry strenuously resisted these measures, because of the costs involved.
Al Qaeda is weakened but they continue to develop new methods of bypassing our airport security, such as the recent undetectable "underwear" bomb. Luckily this time, undercover agents intercepted this threat and many people are feverishly working on improving our security to detect this new device.
By the way, GW Bush was warned by Bill Clinton about Al Qaeda, who told him that this should be his Nr. 1 priority. Bush completely ignored these warnings and instead chose tax cuts and the US economy to be his main priority.
US Intelligence continued to pick up further warnings, these even detailed a possible multiple airplane hijack plot, again these were ignored. Mossad had clearly warned the CIA about this !
Airport security should have been improved at that time.
In addition, the FBI did not pass on vital information to the CIA about these hijackers, who they had been observing. They should not have even been allowed to enter the US in the first place, because most were barred from doing so.
The pathetic rivalry between the CIA and the FBI was the cause of this breakdown in communication, and this led to a huge hole in your nations security.
Such idiotic rivalry should have been forcefully pushed to one side by your government, and heads should have rolled within these "rival" organisations !
Ignoring these clear warnings cost many thousands of lives, and the financial cost of these mistakes to the US economy was staggering.
My thinking follows simple logic....
Your top security advisers should be looking into possible attacks on places that could damage your country economically, for example, on your oil refineries or power stations, particularly the nuclear ones. These are the weak points ! Other possible targets are bridges which carry a high density of traffic.
An example, the US has only 17 oil refineries with capacities higher than a quarter million barrels a day, but these account for 60 % of your total needs. What if terrorists fired incendiary missiles into most of these, rendering them inoperative for many months, if not years ?
The result would be a total collapse of your way of life, the US economy would be completely destroyed overnight !
Remember, Al Qaeda used 16 terrorists on 9/11. Had they split them up and attacked your weak points instead of using airplanes, the damage your country would have suffered would have been far, far worse, even though not so many people would have died !
So consider yourself lucky that Al Qaeda wanted a sensational news story on that fateful day, and didn't use their brains !
And make sure you don't cut security for reasons of costs !
To be honest I think 9/11 and this whole war on terror is a lie. It is the biggest treason/fraud in history. Osama's death was obviously faked. Islam never had anything to do with terrorism. The goal of terrorism is to give up our freedom and support the elite's foreign invasions.
Yes it will happen. Why? Because the real mastermind behind 9/11 has not been brought to justice. History will repeat.
It could be possible. But the airports have a strong security and they check lugage very well to make sure the plane is safe and the pilot doors are locked. There is a very small chance of that happening ever again
Al qaeda is broken but a wounded animal is in many ways more dangerous.
Sure. Anything can happen, including you asking a serious question.
Only if too many people demand the government back off it's draconian laws passed in the wake of 9/11. See what I mean. Please watch this first video linked here. It’s only one minute. You’re going to be impressed. This is a local news video of a witness named Kenny Johannemann testifying to explosions that happened in the basement of one of the WTC towers. While he is testifying you still see both of the twin towers burning behind him in the background. This was live footage and it's only ONE minute long. Go ahead and watch this here:
it depends if the government approves of it
9/11 happened when I was about six, so I've always been very scared by it. It effected my family a lot and lately they've been saying that Al Queda is stronger than ever, so could it happen again?
