Thanks NJ for that. I went on to one of the sites and it is truly horrific what happened.
Yes. I did know about this.
World War 2 was so vast? It's almost impossible to know everything about it.
The Germans treated their Russian prisoners-of-war so horribly that most of them died. That's on top of those Russians who died in battle.
Most people know about how 6 million Jews died in the concentration camps. However, we forget all the other people that Hitler wanted exterminated. The mentally ill and mentally retarded. A huge number of Gypsies died. Political prisoners that disagreed with Hitler's philosophy. Homosexuals. Any person that might have Jewish ancestry. It goes on and on...
Believe it or not? Hitler was NOT the greatest killer of all time. That distinction actually goes to a Russian named Stalin. He killed his own people in a mass genocide the likes of which the world had never seen before.
***It makes me wonder about some of the middle-eastern leaders who try to claim that the Jewish Holocaust never happened. No one could be that stupid! There was a holocaust before Hitler, and there have been many other holocausts after Hitler. The numbers might be smaller, but they are STILL senseless killings. They are genocide!
I can understand your surprise. I was shocked too when I found out the actual numbers of all of the people that died. Congratulations on taking an interest in history. You will never regret it.
Yes I knew there was a substantial Russian loss. This is purely because they didn't use any real military tactics, they just went head on. They also had a 'no step back' policy where, if a soldier were to move backwards from his current position and not towards the goal, he would immediately be executed by his commanding officer. The Russians, although brave and strong, weren't as skilled as the Nazi troops. All of this summed up meant that they conceded heavy losses.
So what's your point? Many Russians died fighting, often needlessly, as dictated by the monster Stalin. And thousands died as prisoners of the Germans (thousands of Germans subsequently died as prisoners of the Russians) That cannot be underestimated of course, but the Holocaust (note correct spelling) was targeted at noncombatant civilians because they were Jewish. But I'm still unaware of the point you are trying to make, because yes, I was aware, as you would have been if you were even halfway aware of what happened in WW2 and afterwards.
I knew.
There's a field somewhere in Russia not sure where that is full of plaques but these plaques are not for individual people who died in WW2 they are for villages, villages that the Germans destroyed, and there are lots of em, as far as the eye can see.
In 1918 Spanish flu killed over 50 million people.

Yes, I knew.
The Americans were so afraid of the Russian War Machine at the close of the War, they needed to negate their sacrifices so that they could be demonised...
Yes, I am fully aware of the awful carnage of the Second World War. World wide, more than seventy million people lost their lives-----and MOST of them were civilians. Hitler had more than 22,000 Death Camps in Europe. Although his special request was to murder Jews, Hitler had no reservation at murdering Catholic priests, Jehovah's Witnesses, Gypsies, homosexuals-----anyone who even spoke out in criticism of his policies and agenda.
Yes
Yes but Russian involvement and sacrifice was downplayed with the start of the cold war
more than 20 million Russians died in WW2. 11.5 people died in the haulocost. Just look it up. tell me if you knew this or not.

20 million russians? well they did used to push the eurasians out first in the attacks.. actually as a percentage of the population the krauts lost more people..
'11.5 people died in the haulocost' you mean holocaust right, the accepted figure is less than half of that number..
did you know that?
yes l know. l have a family member who was out fighting the second war.
Hardly news - units had NKVD (later KGB) troops behind them with smg to shoot them if they tried to retreat or stopped too long
Why stop there, how many were killed in China, in fact how many in the whole of Asia.
Yes.
I also know it was seventy plus years ago.
Yes, and don't forget the Holodomor.
