I know people are well aware of the consequences of such violent acts, so performing them anyways tells people that you don't care what the consequences may be.. even if it is death row.
he did it to himself. he deserves whatever punishment is coming to him
oh and no he should NOT get off the hook for pleading mentally insane. If everybody thought they could get away with a massacre just by pleading crazy there would be a lot more tragedies like this one. We have laws for a reason. He broke the law, he needs to be punished.

Consequences:
None, really. This was clearly the work of a very deranged person. It's shocking and tragic, but thankfully quite rare. We should not take actions against such extraordinary incidents. Some theaters have started checking peoples' bags as they enter the theater or have extra security at the fire doors, and I think that's fine. Anything else would be overkill and would essentially show the shooter how successful his actions were in making us live in fear.
Yes we should feel sad, angry, scared or whatever but we should never make decisions based on our emotions.
Obama's comments:
Eh, whatever. What did you want him to say? He's shocked and saddened by the attack, and also sends his sympathies to anyone who lost someone in the attack.
Judgement:
Colorado has the death penalty. Unless his lawyers can prove he's criminally insane, I'm pretty sure this will be his judgement.
Right now its 12 dead, 59 injured... Personally I dont care what his excuse is, he should be hung the nearest tree. But since only 2 states use hanging, the death penalty in colorado will have to do. I just hope they don't wait 20 years on death row to do it. as far is obama's concern who cares what he has to say, he screwed up this country bad enough. I think it's a little boy with a political ploy trying to look like he is sympathetic.
I have feared this happening for years. It is the perfect venue for a mass crime. When 9/11 happened I feared movie theaters would be used for a terrorist attack.
I sit in the last row last seat, as close to the door as possible.
Since 9/11 I have only attend 4 movies and have not enjoyed them.
Metal detectors would not have stopped this. He came in through back exit fire doors.
