Can shops charge extra for stamps?

You should have said no thanks and bought them at the Post Office.

I guess some places are allowed to up the price. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for stamps, ''if'' they had the kind I like. The last few months I've had to buy the same stamps. They say they are overstocked with them in my area. They are Christmas stamps! Everywhere I go in this town only seems to have those. I have asked several times for the US flag stamp, and every place I go tells me, ''no these Christmas stamps are all we have'' I don't mind Christmas stamps, but hell. This is way past Christmas. This is the first year this has ever happened in my life. I wouldn't mind paying more if they would give me the American flag stamps.

Superdrug sells stamps with a discount.

I twigged on that shops only seem to be able to sell stamps in books, but I didnt know they were any dearer ?

I run a pack and ship store, and I charge more than the post office. It is a trade off. I charge more because a) I have overhead b) post office gets a handout from the government whereas I do not c) I provide the same product with better and faster customer service.

Simple economics, I provide a service, and to some their time is more important than a few pennies. For those who feel that their money is more important than their time, they go to the post office and wait.

I bought two books of second class stamps this morning (2x12) and was charged £9.60. Second class stamps are currently 36p, not 40p. Don't all shops have to sell them at the same price? Can they mark them up? (I know I should have done the sums before paying....)
