Daryl can't die; his fan base is just so insanely huge, pretty much to the point where writers can't kill him off, vaginas all over the world would dry up the day Daryl dies. If that's not a good answer well if you see the trailer for the next half of season 3 you see Daryl out of Woodbury so he definitely gets out of the situation he was left off in in the mid season finale (Not so sure about Merle though). I feel that Daryl will be part of the show for an extremely long time, I think the writers have to keep at least some characters that started off in Season 1 of the show. I can't see them killing everyone off besides Rick and Carl. (Carl can never die imagine Rick's mental breakdown).
I don't think they would kill him, Daryl is too popular. If the actor left the show, they would probably want to leave his story open for guest appearances. He would probably pull an Andrea and be separated somehow from the group.
Seems likely.
