Being "straight with the details" does nothing to dissuade conspiracy theorists. Anything that comes from authority is automatically suspect to them at any rate.

Conspiracy theory belief is fed by a variety of factors but one common thread among CTists is the inability to properly use critical, rational thinking. They can't take a complex event like the JFK assassination and make sense of the many factors, so they invent these ridiculous conspiracy scenarios. Because they can not think rationally they can not judge how ridiculous these are either. They never think down to the necessary level to vet their own claims for quality.

Those of us who can apply rational thinking to complex multi-faceted scenario's know Oswald did it and we know he acted alone. It was not his first attempted political assassination. He did not play well with others. He was an expert marksman. All the shots were fired from his rifle, from the 6th floor of the building in which he worked and where it was recovered. Forensic recreations have established that beyond any doubt. He was seen fleeing the building just moments after the shooting and later murdered a police officer while trying to escape. Oswald had the motive, the means, and the opportunity and the physical evidence says he did it. Job done.

Many CTists I'd guess can't emotionally cope with the idea that the world can be so random and chaotic that one pathetic loser could do something so grand. They find it more emotionally appealing to believe there are "bad guys" in control than to accept that the world is wild and weird. The idea that NOBODY is in control is just too terrifying. Hence the need for them to invent conspiracies.

It is the same with MLK, RFK, Lennon, Elvis, MJ....people do not want to believe someone has "grand" or heroic as Kennedy could be killed by a one little guy with a rifle. No one wants to believe Oswald, the nut he was, could change events in the world behind a pile of boxes, in a schoolbook warehouse, but that is what happened.

People have idols and the idols seem larger than life so their deaths must be larger than life as well. Therefore, Elvis and MJ are not really dead, they escaped to live a normal life and RFK was killed, yes, but apparently it was the FBI, CIA, mafia etc etc. Same as JFK and MLK (although personally I would not be shocked to learn there was more to the MLK assassination....that seems funky)

I've often wondered what the odds are statistically speaking...

A president of the United States is murdered by a lone assassin. The lone assassin is then killed by a lone assassin. Years pass and the president's brother decides to run for president. He is murdered by a lone assassin.

Isn't this story getting a bit old???

There was no conspiracy. Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.
