You can bet that the BBC make budget cuts but NEVER cuts to Management Salaries and Private Health Care packages and pensions.
Creativity? Regurgitated shows like Doctor Who and Strictly and Robin Hood spin-offs. The list is long.
There is NO creativity. Come back Lew Grade (ITV) who was a genius at innovation!
David s inadvertently puts his finger on part of the problem: just look at that huge list of channels! And don't forget it's highly exciting network of local radio too. And the World service which it has to pay for now.
Back in the 70s - perhaps the golden age of television - all they had was BBC1, BBC2, radios 1,2,3,4 and the locals. TV was only on the air for about 9 hours a day on BBC1 and for about 5 on BBC2. They closed down during the night! Imagine that!
However all this meant the available butter could be spread more thickly and produce better programmes. Now the butter has to be spread so thinly with all channels operating 24hrs that it is hardly surprising that most of it is cheaply made tat.
I hardly ever watch tv now and one of my biggest fears is ending up on a home where I am forced to sit in front of it all day. I can think of little worse with its banality, vulgarity, and the relentless annoyingly bad pop-style music accompanying everything. Even the few remaining documentaries offer little other than dazzling fast camera pans, peculiar angles and the obligatory 'boom tish boom tish boom' muzak as an extra irritation to the also obligatory Scottish accent every broadcaster has to have if she wants to get on these days!
I say bring back the test card and shut down at night. Insomniacs have DVD and video recorders if they're so desperate.
Are you refering to BBC Radio or Television or both. Their budget is limited. Your licence costs you the equivalent of less than £3 per week. For that you get 7 national radio stations and 5 national
television stations plus local radio. Television audiences are low during the daytime on weekdays and this is reflected in the programming and its scope. Radio however is superb in the daytime:-
BBC Radio 1 Popular Music
BBC Radio 2 Light music and chat
BBC Radio 3 Classical Music
BBC Radio 4 News, Discussion, Drama, documentaries
BBC Radio 4 Extra Comedies and Drama
BBC Radio 5 News, Sport, Discusions, Phone Ins
BBC Radio 6 Rock Music
BBC Local Radio Miscellaneous local interest material
Do you mean instead of the rubbish they put on during the evening and night time.
Bring back Open University, that'll teach em lol.
I will be on duty here helping members. I was used to it when I was all those years on the crane.I dont think there is very much on,other than Her majestys message to the Commonwealth. That used to be followed by Pop of the pops. Its a shame an otherwise good show has had its name blackened just because of unproven claims against one of its presenters. At least these days we have the Freeview channels.
What about evening programs. There are very few good programs available on any channel and that includes Satellite channels or is it just me
This is just personal opinion, I quite enjoy some of the daytime stuff about antiques and art.
The new drama 'The last tango in Halifax' on BBC1 has had many great reviews, I loved it.
Because the majority of people who watch it are brain dead, they would stare at the TV if it was switched off!
Saving money so they can give discredited people a years pay plus bouses as severance!
They are facing hard times with the whole Savile thing. Hopefully they can pull it all back together soon.
It is time we had a better class of program than the rubbish at the moment....
It's obviously a plot to make people go out.
Daytime television is designed to keep people in retirement homes under control. Evening television is about drivel: daytime television is about dribble.
because they give all the license fee money to the fat cat bosses, instead of buying good programs
You mean as opposed to the high quality daytime TV shown on ITV, C4 and C5?
Maybe b'cos they have a new boss!
listen to the radio. i do other stuff whilst listening.
Same reason why fox is
They eat their own feces during the day. This has been their ritual for decades. You're welcome.
