When they started to introduce water meters they said?

It's worse than that most water companies are owned by the French!

Contrary to popular belief the water which comes out of the tap has been processed, quality checked & the pipes it runs through require regular maintenance to bring fresh, clean drinkable water, to every home in the UK.

And thank Thatcher for selling off another national asset to private companies, who now ONLY have shareholders interests on the top of their agenda.

Water may be provided free by God but it's treated and pumped to our homes by man made contrivances and the waste disposed of the same way. It's the services we pay for not the water. Clearly with an increasing population but static water supplies it's important that we are all made aware of the amount of water we use and metering it would seem to be the only way of doing so.

The asker should remember that water is by no means free without meters,in fact if one doesn't have a meter one has to pay a water rates charge based on the rateable value of the property. This is very expensive indeed. As a single person with a meter I pay a fraction of the cost without.

Of course it depends on how big a family one has,but a meter is always worth having even with a medium size family.

I think the purpose of them is to save water for society, but with a meter it saves it for the consumer as well. I advise the asker to have one.

Even without a water meter you still have to pay for your water and sewerage costs. If you don't have a water meter you have to pay a fee based on your home's rateable value, this is linked to the Community Charge. When I swapped from paying based on rateable value and started paying for metered water my annual bill dropped down from £650 per year to £250 per year. You don't say how old you are but payments for water use have been in place for well over 100 years and I doubt you are old enough to remember the pre-piped water days when you bought you water from water carriers who wandered the streets of Victorian England.

Then have your supply cut off. See how long before you want it reconnected.

Water is indeed free if you collect it from rivers, ponds, ditches etc. like huge swathes of the third world do. Safe, sterile tap water costs money.

The cost is the problem it is so much higher than the normal charge, but this is what happens when you vote in crooked politicians who sell the nations resources

Move to the country and drill a well! I did.

Quote....it has nothing to do with a water shortage, but it is because water has no competition to it.

you cannot make water and so water meters introduce a competitive atmosphere to provide a better service and cheaper water.unquote.

Water is God given and is not the property of the water companies.

people should tell these water people to stuff the meters.

When i was a boy if you had said that one day people would have a meter for a necessity and god given substance i would have said you were crazy.
