To me it feels much better paced, the episode doesn't seem like it's finished before it started anymore and i like how brash the doctor is, as he has been in his previous incarnations from classic series (like Pertwee and both Bakers), his darker aspect is also reminiscent of McCoy. We're really seeing a different side of the doctor than we have with the new series ones rather than the doctor just being about fan pleasing with silly jokes and quirkiness (which was fun at times but grew a little stale). Non of the new series doctors were really that drastically different form each other which was a shame in some ways (but they were still good at playing the role). The plots seem to be taken a little more seriously but we still have a strange mystery person as we've had in previous series (Missy), so it's not completely different from how it's been so there's still that familiarity with the writing.
I'm hoping Missy is somehow linked to the Valeyard, especially with a lot of focus revolving around the Doctors darker side.
Doctor Who Season 8, for me, has actually been brilliant so far.
First of all, did you watch the episodes with Christopher Eccleston? Because those who didn't have been complaining about Peter Capaldi's looks and age. However, "Doctor Who" has never been about romance and hot shots.
The first episode was a great episode to introduce 12. I mean, cmon, he was funny AND felt empathy for a freaking dinasour. I actually really enjoyed it!
The second episode brought the daleks back to their original, killing selves, while also exploring the depths of 12's personality. It was also enjoyable, and had me almost in tears.
Just because it isn't Tennant or Smith (who I both love to death) doesn't mean it isn't doctor who, or it isn't amazing. In fact, I think those 2 episodes showed what "Doctor Who" really stands for!
Its all a matter of opinion really.
I think Doctor who is going back to its roots as in the classic series for this regeneration. Doctor who has always been about change. Every regeneration is significantly different from the previous regeneration in some important way. Capaldi is no exception to this rule. His doctor is a shade darker and more willing to look at a bigger picture than the immediate one. This is why his companions will be more important than ever. They are his conscience and a handbrake for him. I think season 8 will be remembered for its moral dilemmas and what makes the doctor tick. The interplay between Clara and the Doctor will be something special to watch this year. I also think that the Danny Pink character is going to pivotal to how this story progresses.
I'm starting to like it. I'm not sure about Peter Capaldi yet. but I think I like where they're going. And i'm liking Clara more which I didn't think was possible b/c I liked her a lot already.
Peter Capaldi is a good actor but I dont think he is right for the doctor. The only thing we can do is give it time and see how he really is.
I'm not entirely sure.
What do you think about the first two episodes so far? I don't see the show the same as it was previously
