Its not the Geneva convention its the Vienna convention. There were two different types of for diplomats and consuls. Ms Khobragade comes under the Vienna convention for consular ridhts of 1963 which states that "if a consul is guilty of violating local law he/she can be tried under the law of the land".
So therefore, she is not entitled the privileges of a diplomat and should be punished if found gulity.
Having said that the US must apologize because she was strip searched and placed in a cell along with saex workers and drug pedlars. Such treatment of a consul is derogatory and not becoming of a country that itself proposes great values.
To arrest and strip search a diplomat from India---including a full cavity search---is an affront to any person-----Especially if the arrest was made for a non-violent crime. At this point, I would claim we committed a gross felony upon the poor woman. We are rapidly losing any and all sensitivity we USED to have for fellow human beings. Maybe our law enforcement methods ARE legal in our country. But, our methods perfectly mimic the felonies perpetrated upon innocent victims.
I am grateful to the asker for adding the link. I am sending a later on. The Indian people should not get excited and angry. There is no need. America will sort it out. But the Geneva Convention doesnt cover this. That is on prisoners of war.
No.
But Indian diplomats could stop using slaves when in America.
Just a thought eh?
I think there is some sort of 'Vienna convention'. Diplomats and things.
India is now very much more likely to be very much more than 'impartial' to China,Russia, Europe,
ANYONE than the US.
Which would serve the US damn right !
This a mistaken approach. No need for apology.
This kind of behaviour is not news, it goes on frequently.
No
yes may be!
Geneva convention clearly stipulate that we should not treat diplomats so badly....
