It was Hitlers taking over of one country after another that led to war. Neville Chamberlain was a man of honour who seeked only peace. He went to see Hitler and made what he thought was an agreement between gentlemen. But when Hitler invaded Poland he saw it as a breach of faith and a breach of all that Britain's long history had stood for. If you listen to Chamberlains speech to say war now exists between the British Empire and the German state,he is almost crying. He says Britain cannot deal with such breach of good faith,of breaking ones word.
Of course some months later Churchill took over.and he offered us a poem he said described Britain's
plight.
"Sail on O ship of state,
Sail on union strong and great,
Humanity with all its fears,
with all its hopes for future years,
Is hanging breathlessly by thy fate.
Madagascar plan was never going to work in reality, there was only one solution for the Nazi and that was the final one. Britain had no choice but to declare war, there was never any other alternative when Hitler rolled the tanks west. It was not just about the Jews, it was a dictator that wanted to rule Europe with a jack boot and sooner or later the clash was going to happen. Fortunately Hitler never got his head around sea power. Never got his head around a lot on the battle field really.
Thankfully we eventually did something, we should have done it sooner.
Britain Had no choice but to declare War on Germany, as Britain and france had a treaty to protect Poland if it was invaded by Germany. Neville Chamberlain sent a diplomatic note to Hitler to ask for him to remove his troops from Poland. within 24 hours or britain would declare war against Germany. previously to this, Chamberlain had 3 meetings with hitler in Munich, and Hitler gave Chamberlain his Assurance that he had no more ambitions for occupying any more European Countries. He even signed a treaty with Chamberlain to this effect.
You have this mistaken, and common, belief that the UK knew what was going to happen to the Jews. They didn't you drongo. Nobody did!
Hindsight doesn't make you any smarter, it just clouds your ability to judge events as they were at the time.
I am a historian and can't believe the number of people who use their hindsight to assume that the people at the time had the same knowledge. They didn't!
A real fact is the UK should not have gone to war with Germany in 1914! World War 2 would definitely not have happened if that had been the case and millions would not have died in vain between 1914-1918.
Spot on, there was no good reason at all for Britain to get involved in this war, we were never in any danger and we lost our empire and bankrupt ourselves in the process. Hitler never had any plans to attack Britain he saw us as a potential ally and offered us peace on several occasions once the war started, Hitlers assistant Rudolf Hess even flew to Britain to try and broker a peace deal but was imprisoned for it.
When the bombing campaigns started Hitler put an embargo on Britain to make sure his Luftwaffe only bombed military targets, Churchill badly wanted a war with Germany as he knew in advance that the Americans would get involved (Roosevelt had promised this years before and was assisting the British in attacking German ships in the Atlantic) and so he decided to bomb civilian targets in Germany to bait them into doing the same in return, 3 months had past until Hitler had enough and ordered the bombing of civilian targets in Britain. The Poland excuse doesn't hold any water anymore as the Russians had attacked Poland simultaneously and we didn't declare war on them, also after the war we handed Poland over to the Soviets, Churchill and his cronies dragged us into a war for his own personal benefit, he was paid a lot of money by Zionists and because of his ridiculous spending habits accepted it and destroyed our country, it always makes me laugh when i hear people say he was a hero, he was a crook to the core and a very skilled manipulator with great oratory skills but he was no hero.
Moment when Hitler cracks regading British bombing and orders retaliation...
Hilter deserved a bullet sooner
Germany had the Madagascar Plan as their policy for what to do with the Jews. They would take over France, seize her colonies, and use Madagascar to put the Jews.
But because of British naval warfare Germany was unable to secure the French colonies and changed its mind and did the Holocaust instead.
Since Britain could've prevented the Holocaust by just saying "we don't care what you do with Poland, just don't kill the Jews" and then Germany would've had the means to resettle the Jews was it worth it? Should Britain have stayed out of for the sake of the Jews?
