Not having social sites affect in any way?

What actually we getting from social site e.g, Facebook.

I personally have both a Facebook and Twitter account, but never post on either of them.but find Twitter to be very interesting to see what the people I follow on a day to day basis.are up to !

Of course, Facebook was first started so students could keep in touch. Its fine I suppose for those with lots of friends,

We can see from recent court cases there is a great potential to say the wrong thing and offend someone with perhaps what one has meant as a joke ?

yes, I am an adult returning to college and I've noticed that I am left out of social events within groups I participate in because they rather post on facebook than send an email. I have both a facebook account and a Google + but I very rarely check them since I use facebook for it's original purpose, catching up on friends, not planning future events. At the hight of my social media usage, I was checking once a week and that wasn't enough for preplanned events apparently, so now I don't care as much and check in 2~3 times a year. I refuse to live my life ON a social site.

I even read an article yesterday morning about how email is on the decline due to social networking. It's mostly due to not knowing how to use email correctly but I suppoise I could be debated on that one.

not having social sites keep you away from new trends, current events, important information such as fatal/harm to loved ones. sure people can call and tell you, but since most everyone has some sort of big social network account, people will think you already know. you'll seem kind of like an outsider if everyone knew something and were possibly gossiping around you about th situation, and you say "what happend?". personally, i'd feel left out and kind of lost without some sort of social network since some people live on those sites. you've got to stay up to date with all of it. without it, you'll be like a grandma and so far behind it all.

It definitely affects me, both positively and negatively. I don't use any of them and it makes me appear outside the loop of normal social practices. But that is fine, because most people also recognize that means I probably and more independently minded than the average American. I have noticed that the younger kids seem more interested in removing the human component of social interaction more and more.

Just remember that these sites aren't charities. Whatever you think you're getting out of Facebook, believe me when I say they're getting ten times as much out of you.

Facebook is great. you can get back in touch with old friends and family.
