Is series 5 of Dr.Who worth it?

Okay, my answer may be long, but here we go.

Starting from series 5, it IS sort of a reboot. But listen: when I say reboot, I mean a "fresh start." It still IS connected to the past and we know this because in series 6 or 7, the Doctor accidentally turns on this machine that starts showing holograms of previous companions---like Leela, Rose, Martha, Donna---and Amy Pond asks him, "Ooh, Doctor, who are those people?" and the Doctor says, "My guilty conscience," meaning that he remembers his past companions and he feels bad about the usually-tragic ways they left him. So NO, series 5 isn't erasing series 1 -- 4, they're still connected. But yes, it is a fresh start with a new Doctor and new companions and yeah, old characters like Rose, Donna, Martha, Jack Harkness---none of them appear, even though they do still exist in his past. However, River Song does appear with the Eleventh Doctor, and if you remember correctly, River Song first appeared to the Tenth Doctor in "Silence in the Library"---so there ARE a few connections to previous seasons, if you watch closely!

As for should you keep watching...HECK YES. Now, I admit: I may be a bit biased, since Matt Smith was the first Doctor I saw, and you know what they say: "You never forget your first Doctor." And it's true, Elevn was the first Doctor I saw, the first Doctor I loved. So I absolutely loved seasons 5, 6, and 7. I know there are some die-hard David Tennant fans who didn't really like it...but I think that's silly, because the whole point of the show Doctor Who is CHANGE. Change in companions, in Doctors, in themes. You have to embrace the change! And the Eleventh Doctor really is wonderful and funny and I loved him dearly, though I'm sure Peter Capaldi will do a great job as the Twelfth. I also loved Amy Pond as the companion, she's so feisty and tough and has a heart of gold.

Thematically...yes, the show changes a bit in season 5. It gets a little darker, a little more complex, and a little less "goofy". The Eleventh Doctor acts a bit more alien and disconnected-from-humanity than the Tenth Doctor. So yes, it is a bit of shock when you first watch it after 4 seasons of funny Chris Eccleston and lovable David Tennant---but like I said, embrace the change! Keep watching. It gets better. A lot of people were hesitant about Matt Smith's Doctor at first (like you) but they soon grew to adore him. And when you finally see him regenerate in season 7, I'm almost positive your heart will break.

On that happy note (lol)...have a nice time!

I didn't like Matt Smith at first, but I soon discovered why. It wasn't him, it was his companions and the plot lines. Every single episode is Amy-focused; saving Amy, helping Amy, finding Amy, Amy, Amy, Amy. MATT smith is charming as the Doctor but is unfortunately saddled with this obsession with Amy. And then his intergalactic and across time search for a bit of tail called Clara.

I think the Doctor needs to lose the companions altogether. Or at least calm down his hormones.

Yes it's worth it, Matt Smith is an amazing doctor but I'm sorry to tell you he just regenerated again, looking forward to seeing Peter Capaldi as the doctor!!

I think it is okay, I did like the 10th doctor better though, because I grew up with him, but I you like Doctor Who, you should like the 5th series. And no worries, I ramble all the time... :)

Yes it is worth it.

First of all, please read the whole "wall of text, ( sorry for that by the way, I′m just quite eager :P ) before answering. Thank you in advance.

I know this is considered a really good series, but hear me out.

I personally just fell in love with Billie Piper and the 9th doctor togheter, and also pretty much loved the 10th doctor. ( Soon got used to all the other characters like Martha and Donna as well because they were all connected.)

All 4 series were amazing, connected from the start. Every plot twist from series one could do something in series 3 or 4 or whatever.

But then I went from series 4 to 5 and all of a sudden this random dude appears. ( the current Doctor) And the entire thing seems to have been rebooted.

So to the actual question(s). Do you think I would enjoy the 5th series, even though I am so attatched to all the previous events? So far I have watched one episdoe, and I am not quite sure what to think. I like the new doctor in some ways, but I can′t quite tell ... you know, from one episode.

Are these seasons, ( 5-7 ) At all connected to the previous events? Or did it all like, "not happen?" Because I also want to get in to the Torchwood series, and at the moment I don′t have to much free time, so I can′t really watch both of them, considering there is like 4 seasons of Torchwood and 3 more seasons of Dr.Who.

So... Sorry for rambling, thanks for any responses.. :d
