After that it went downhill (to the point it became a chore watching it and I considered just stopping - but I also wanted to know the end and the wiki episode recaps aren't very detailed). Series 6 is yet to come back to the UK
I do highly recommend The Originals though - it's a spin off but works well as a stand alone series. There have bee crossovers but so far nothing that isn't explained within TO. It may help to have a read through the series guides for TVD if you plan on just watching TO. But if you watch both you will easily understand both.
I'd watch the first 3 series of TVD and see what you think - I was hooked for the first 3 series and a bit of the 4th. And give The Originals a go
Okay. If you ask me, Twilight and The Vampire Diaries are completely different! Yes, they may have the same story line (love triangle, vampires etc.) but they are definitely not very alike, infact the love triangle and the vampires is pretty much the only similar thing! I watched The Vampire Diaries way before I watched Twilight. I watch Twilight because I thought it'd be similar, but it's not. After finishing both series (up to date with The Vamprie Diaries so far) I have come to realise the difference between a M rated vampire and and MA15+ rated vampire. Twilight is pretty much about love, nothing else really to it honestly. But The Vampire Diaries is about lots more! Blood, death, murder, love, family, sacrifice, gore and a lot more! The series has progressed a lot since starting lots is introduced and it's become a very mature show. It's great, I personally love it. It keeps you on your feet. But in no way is it similar to Twilight. I recommend giving it a go, not because you like Twilight, but because it's a worth while show!
The first few seasons I liked of the vampire diaries haven't seen the 5th yet but if you want a vampire show. You should defently watch Buffy The Vampire Slayer which is the king when it comes to vampire shows. A little older but still a classic tv show.
I was asking myself the same question at the beginning of summer, then i started watching it and I surprisingly loved it, it really catched me and now im addicted. It's a lot better than twilight because it's plot is stronger and it has a strong scenery too, you'll find yourself in a brand new world full of supernatural creatures and it has a different love triangle which i find clever and the friendship between characters grow while they interract with each other so i think it's one of the best science fiction tv shows ever produced.
I haven't watched the vampire diaries but it's sequel the originals is awesome a season has passed and season 2 is currently showing
The first three seasons are decent. It goes downhill from season 4 to 5. Season 6 is a little better, but the storytelling is not nearly as strong as the first three seasons. I think you might like it though. It is beter than True Blood.
I think The Vampire Diaries is loosing is its charm.
I am a huge fan of the Twilight Saga and have recently become interested in the vampire genre so I've been exploring for TV shows that are vampire themed.
I bought the first season of True Blood and I couldn't even get through half of it, I find it horrible and I absolutely hate it. I don't get the hype surrounding it.
Is Vampire Diaries worth watching and is it better than True Blood? Because I don't want to waste my money again...
