I've really got back into it since Stabler left, I like Danny Pino who plays Amaro and Kelli Giddish as Rollins.
I also love Raul Esparza as ADA Barba.
Seasons 13 onwards i've watched religiously but i do dip in and out of older ones too.
Its my fave of all the Law and Order spin offs.
It's good and the best of the franchise in my opinion, but if you are uncomfortable about sex crimes, which is what they focus on then it's not for you because the it happens to both children and adults and some children are even the perps. So it's up to you what you can and cannot happen.
it is good, but a LOT of the crimes are really really icky.

I love the original series that ran in 1990-2010 but I have heard good things about SVU, now the sort of crimes make me uncomfortable and a bit put off, but I love StephanieMarch who plays Alex Cabot, shes gorgeous I think, so could I watch it? is it good?
Do I have to watch it from season 1 because I don't think Alex is in it then
