How is reality TV fake?

It's all very exaggerated and scripted, even though they pass it off as 'reality.' My mom used to work in a tattoo shop with many other people. Someone offered to do a reality tv show on them working in the shop, but it was all just a lot of drama that they wanted them to fake. My mom promptly quit b/c she didn't want to be involved in that.

One of my friends is an actor who gets bit parts in comercials and tv, he told me of being hired as an extra for a reality show where the director was compleatly in charge. It was staged to look real but every aspect of it was in fact "scripted" on the spot. I wont mention the name of the show here but if you are really interested you can email me and i will tell you. The particular show, in my opinion, is very poorly thought out and is overdone in such a way as to be almost blatantly fake. But my opinion of it was formed after hearing my friends account and may not be so obvious to the casual observer.

It is scripted and the 144 hours that happen are cut down into 48 minutes per week. You only see less than 1/150th of what happens and only the parts that are released.

it's exaggerated. of course you're going to be melodramatic to create a storyline on camera! also, the producers have a way of filming/editing to make things look a certain way.

total divas, kardashians, etc etc all fake

Yes

They all are scripted. All are playing their character.

How is it NOT fake?
