Have you ever been through a hurricane?

what would you do if a cat 2 hurricane was heading straight for you?

No, but I have twice experienced hurricane force winds while on a sailing boat, anchored onto a coral reef in the Red Sea.

The howling noise was so deafening that you could not hear anyone speaking, no matter how loud they shouted.

On one of these occasions, all six anchor chains broke within seconds of each other and we drifted towards another reef behind us. The anchor chains were made of 12mm steel, and they simply snapped under the terrific strain caused only by the power of the wind against the boat.

It took well over two hours to get this trimaran under control, and re-anchored onto the reef, but this time shielded a little from the wind, by an even bigger boat which we also attached our lines to !

Needless to say I got no sleep that night, such was my fear of the remaining anchor chains breaking !

Back in 2006, there was a massive hurricane about 200 miles south of Hong Kong. My gosh it was extremely windy and there was no point to carrying umbrellas because even if I managed my head and upper torso to be dry, the bottom half was drenched. It was wonderful. ^_~

If a cat 2 hurricane was heading for us, I would seek basement shelter or a fortified concrete shelter. Luckily most buildings in Hong Kong are concrete. I guess they figured since ancient times to build their houses and shops out of stone and fortified mud due to the infamous hurricanes around here.

Cat 2? Probably nothing.

I was in Hong Kong when a Cat 2 hit the city. Other than a bunch of wind and rain, it wasn't a bit deal.

The worst part was being stuck in our hotel room on the 30th-something floor all day. Everything else was closed.

By evening it had moved on for the most part so we were able to outside again. Most of the damage was limited to trees and lamp posts.

We were in Hurricane Katrina, the one that leveled parts of New Orleans, while it was still Category 2. We made sure that we had about 3 days worth of food, had flashlights, closed the blinds and shades, opened windows a little on both sides of the dwelling to equalize pressure, and rode it out.

It's time to board up. Hurricanes are very frightening. It's like being hit by many strong winds again and again until your house get destroyed.

i have been through 7 hurricanes when i lived in florida usually i would just go in the basement....if they were really bad my family would go to a city that is safe.

Yes I was in Luzon Philippines about 15 years ago when a huge typhoon hit.

The locals take it in their stride because they are used to it....but for me it was my first ....the roaring sound was deafening...and it is fair to say I was scared sh#tless!

Yea
