the subject matter basically insists that the show be more sad than happy... what do you expect from a show about a plague that wipes out most of humanity and leave the few survivors to scavenge for food and supplies and fight off a constant horde of flesh eating zombies, not to mention other people who are equally violent and armed to the teeth?
The "happy" parts of the show come from small moments, like when Carl finds a giant can of chocolate pudding, or when a character who is close to suicide finally decides they want to live, or when a baby presumed dead turns out to be perfectly fine.
Saving Private Ryan is a pretty sad movie. then again, war is a pretty sad premise. presenting it in any other way would be unrealistic.
I enjoyed the first season, then it slowed down a lot and the characters starting making the worst decisions they could possibly make.
I definitely don't hate it, it has good episodes, just a lot of boring ones to go with them (in my opinion).
Also, it's a zombie apocalypse, you didn't think it was going to be a happy show did you?
I never understood the whole hype about it, then again...I really don't watch a whole lot of TV. I also synced it with the whole 'zombie' fad that's been going on for the last couple years, it's just like Twilight and the 'vampire' fad and all the spin off shows of that movie and trend...
that show is completely overrated. my favorite horror show is american horror story (except season 3) and favorite drama is game of thrones. even GoT has better zombies than TWD
So for the longest time all I have heard for EVERYBODY is that I need to watch the walking dead and I have to watch it right away because it is the best thing ever and everyone always talks about how they actually want a zombie war because of this show. Needless to say I was going in knowing it would be sad but I expected a fair amount of awesome as well and a season in i HATE it. First of I knew it would be sad but this show is literally so depressing at the end of each episode I feel like crying out of hopelessness. Seriously in the last episode I watched a man hit his wife, some guy talked about how walkers ate his whole family in front of him, half the characters in the camp died, a man got bit and knew he was slowly dying, and a girls sister got bit and died in her arms ON HER BIRTHDAY afterwords the sister holds her zombie sister, tells her she loves her and shoots her in the head and we meet a nursing home of old people all left alone to die. And so much more happened that I can't remember that was just messed up.And I would be fine if this was mixed in with something cool or awesome but it seems like this shows extent of awesome is 'oh look he got a walker in the head with an arrow how cool. Seriously I feel like what ruined it the most was hearing all the people say they wish zombies where real only to see scenes like the girl shooting her sister in the head. I don't feel existed to watch it I feel like I am walking into a nightmare and at the end it's just crushing sadness. It stuns me that people enjoy watching something so freaking sad
