There is a slight difference between being accused of touching up women over the age of 16 and sexually abusing disabled children. I don't think Jimmy Savile would have a chance of getting off.
I agree with Nutsters answer. All Travis comes across is of a person full of self pity because he had to flog his home to pay for his legal fees. Well something happened to someone otherwise it would not have gone to court and after what emerged about Roache after the no guilty verdict it makes one wonder. One former actress in the series told in her life story that he was a lech and she had to go to Pat Phoenix for help.
There was no evidence , juries won't convict people without it, specially when the accusations are over 30 years old..
BTW - Stuart Hall pleaded guilty anyway and Freddie Starr did a lot of drugs in the 60/70s he's pretty mixed up , prone to sudden violent outbursts and manic depression..
Sir James of Saville kept his mums room laid out the same as when she died, psycho something wasn't right about the man. Eccentricities are one thing but he had disturbing traits. On the Louis Threoux program he himself stated if he seen a friends child on the street in the rain he wouldn't pull over in case he was seen picking a child up.
In what universe would a normal person even think that or have reason to say it? an automatic rebuttal when he hadn't been accused of anything.
All we can say is these two were cleared in a court of law. Jimmy Saville never actually got into a court of law. So I suppose he is being treated as guilty until proven innocent.
Lets be completely clear about Savile.
His head stone was removed by his family, within days of the start of a police enquiry.
Why?
Because his victims, family & friends of his victims, did not see a charitable & commendable celebrity.
The Yewtree investigation by police is still ongoing.
The bbc investigated at great cost, Savile was seen on film sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
There's not really much anyone can do to defend a man who used his fame to his sick twisted advantage.
DLT does face two more charges at a later date.
It's not quite over yet.
And lets not forget Hall.
He was found guilty & got a prison sentence, when he appealed the court doubled it!
It's pretty well documented how police-reports were suppressed, and got 'lost', to keep Savile out of jail, so I would reconsider supporting someone with that much controversy if I where you, because at best, he's 'not super-bad', worst case, he was exactly the monster that is suggested.
There's always Freddie Starr. :-(
insufficient evidence
hard proof is practically impssible to find years later
no dna for starters
Dave Lee travis not guilty. Ken Barlow not guilty. I wonder if Jim Saville was alive to face a jury if he would be cleared as well ?? What do you think.
