Because she is an attractive white woman. I'm not playing the race card, but let it had been an African-American or Hispanic or Asian man or woman. And also, emphasis on woman. A white male may have served some time, but white women of America tend to get away with a lot. Another infamous white women who was released from prison was Mary Winkler. She was charged with first-degree murder of her husband, and he was a pastor.

I never really followed the case because having a little sister I would become overwhelmed. But why wasn't she ever proven guilty? Everyone else seems to think so except those jurors...
